Day 2, Chiang Mai - Thailand

The night before we decided to book the rest of our stay in a different guest house. We left Trekkers Camp in morning and checked into "Your House" on Ratvithi Road, Lane 1. Again, pretty basic but our room came with a 5 bed nest (two double beds squashed together) so Tiger was very content. The lane we're staying on is great - very quirky with small cafés dotted around and guest houses everywhere. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone staying in Chiang Mai; it's in walkable distance of everything in the old city, close to the ping river for the scorpion tailed long boats and there's a local food market just round the corner.

We took part in a Thai cooking course which is really worth doing. There are loads available to choose from with a range of different dishes and prices. You can choose either full day or half day courses and book through your hotel. We went with a cooking school called "smart cook" which I would recommend to anyone as the staff are really friendly and the dishes are great. For a half day course, we paid 700TB each (£13) and spent the evening making 4 of our chosen dishes.

Spring rolls

Green Thai curry

Cashew nut chicken and coconut chicken soup

It was a really interesting course and the food you make is all fresh and amazing. I chose to make Green Thai curry, coconut chicken soup, spring rolls and cashew nut chicken. I'd advise to go on an empty stomach since you eat the dishes after you've made them and I think everyone was stuffed. At the end of it, you're handed a traditional Thai recipe book with loads of different recipes including the dishes you made.

After the cooking course, we headed to the Night Bazaar. Honest opinion? It's pretty shit. Don't really understand why it's a 'must do' in Chiang Mai. The market itself sells the same shit you can get pretty much everywhere in Thailand, so for me it was nothing special.
