Day 1, Chiang Mai - Thailand

First day in Chiang Mai and we're served a breakfast of 2 pieces of toast, egg, butter, jam and an unlimited amount of tea... today was going to be a good day... We decide to take a bike ride around the country which was great apart from the stray dogs and the fear of getting attacked by them. It felt so good to get out of the city and finally have some fresh air. On our return, we dropped the bikes off and caught a tuk tuk into Chiang Mai old town to take a look at some of the temples.

In any temple you must show respect and dress appropriately, bottoms have to go over the knee while tops must cover shoulders. At the bigger and more popular temples, cloaks are provided When entering the temples, shoes must be taken off left outside.

Temples are dotted all around the old city so you don't need to go looking for them. Chedi Luag was our favourite temple as it's is quite a big site with 4 temples inside. It has a monk university inside the grounds and offers a 'chat with monks' service where you can ask the monk anything. Other temples we visited included Phra Sing, Chiang Yuen and Chiang Man. The temple grounds are so
tranquil and relaxed it's so easy to spend hours there.

There are also a few temples in villages in the mountains and near by towns which are worth checking out too.
