Kohsan Road, Bangkok - Thailand

Kohsan road during the day is like a mad London market. Merchants shout across to each other, tourists stumble across each other and we were just lost in it all. We stayed in a cute hotel called Rikka Inn which was 1500TB a night for two of us, so our total stay for 3 nights cost us £40 each. It had a roof top pool and rooms were cleaned daily, the place was nice and comfortable which is what we needed after suffering from jet lag.

It's pretty easy to find a guest house on Kohsan without booking although I'd advise against it. It's a good place to go, don't get me wrong but it's a bit like staying at a hotel on Zante strip. Music is pumping from 10pm to 5/6am and kept Tiger up till the early hours whilst very jet lagged, resulting in a very angry Tiger come morning.

At night the street changes completely. Unfortunately you can't get away from trash unless Flo Rida is your kinda jam. However, there are loads of cute bars which hold their own mini street parties, filling your sand buckets whenever they look empty. It's all pretty hectic but you meet loads of people at the bars and get to swap stories.

Food stalls bombard the street so it's quick and easy to grab something cheap; Pad Thai costs 30TB, soup 40TB, kebabs 50TB. We pretty much ate pad Thai for breakfast, lunch and dinner since it's dead cheap and really yummy. You just have to make sure you watch them cook it and that all food is served piping hot; sometimes food is sat out for a while, so say no to cold food.

A good place to check out is Rambuttri Road which is a lot calmer than Kohsan but still full of interesting people. There's a great place called "Fun Bar" which is an old VW camper converted into a street bar. Drinks are 100TB by the glass and it's a really nice atmosphere. Drinks in Thailand are super strong so you have to be careful on how much you have. Bar tenders are known to spike drinks and it's so easily done so you need to be vigilant. Even if you meet the nicest of people, don't leave your drinks with them and be careful who you trust. On the 3rd night, my night came a bit disjointed and scary after some guy took my sand bucket to fill it up with more drink. I'm not quite sure whether I got spiked or had too much to drink but I ended up having no recollection of half the night, face planting and busting my lip aswell has having a mini panic attack. You just have to be careful.

Another good place to check out runs parallel to Kohsan and can be reached through the side passages. It's a good place if you want to grab some sit in food and still holds some of Kohsans crazy vibe, just not to it's full extent.

One thing which is really annoying about Kohsan is that you can't walk down the road without being hassled every second. Merchants are everywhere trying to sell you stuff ranging from clothes, taxi rides and the Ping pong show.

Right the ping pong show.. Where do I start...
We met many people who have been to one. Personally, I wanted to go
for a laugh but apparently it's not for the light hearted. The show consists of middle age Thai women shooting ping pongs out their fannys. One guy we met, Jordan, went to a show for his birthday and said that they made him hold a ballon above his head while a woman shot a dart to burst it. Some other Dutch guys went to one where the woman missed the balloon and shot a guys hand instead. Other tricks include pulling out silk, blowing out smoke and spelling names WITH THEIR FANNYS. Don't ask, it's beyond me, but everyone did recommend it so worth a look if that's your kinda thaaang.
